26Fall semester
I haven’t updated in ages, but I’m going to take a break from the Moving series for now to update on the start of classes.
Officially, classes started yesterday, but my schedule required advising so that all my music classes from K-ville would substitute for the music classes here. Otherwise, I’d have to take them all over again! Dr. D, my awesome new clarinet professor, helped me figure out my degree plan yesterday, and I realized that the music degree here is a lot friendlier as far as the number of credit hours is concerned in order to graduate. Take for example education courses. As a student pursuing a music degree with teacher certification, not only do I have to take music classes to fulfill the music part of the degree, but I also have to take education courses. You know, classroom management, student teaching, etc. Well, in K-ville, to be accepted into the College of Education, one must first complete a certain number of core classes, take exams, etc. Here, one can start taking ed classes as early as possible. Now, with music classes, composition is not a required class, and one only needs six semesters of recital seminar. What does all of this mean? Overall, there are a lot less requirements in Commerce than in K-ville. Less requirements don’t necessarily mean easier or one has to lower standards. It’s about flexibility. I love the fact that if I wanted to take a photography course or get a job, I could, because I would have time :)
Well, my schedule this semester is purposely very light, as I only registered for 12 hours because I wanted to get a job to, you know, pay rent and other bills. I went to Wal-Mart the other day to apply. As much as I loathed working there before, I’m afraid I don’t have much of a choice. I need $$$ :O As it is, I’m considering taking out a private loan for school, but I’m a little intimidated because I don’t have a cosigner. My parents don’t exactly have perfect credit, so I may just have to take the loan out myself.
On a much lighter note… I may be graduating earlier than I anticipated because of the fewer requirements I mentioned earlier :) Ahhh… fall semester is underway, and I’m crossing my fingers that it will be a good one!
